In the first of what Maketh Man hopes will be come a regular insert, we pay homage to Style Icon Marcello Mastroianni, and in particular his character Guido, in Federico Fellini’s classic, 8 1/2.
Maketh Man has never wanted to sit on a bench in a black suit, smoke cigarettes and read the newspaper more than after watching this film.
Marcello Mastroiani represents everything cool about Italian men. Silver haired, silver-tongued and smooth. One can even overlook the bizarre toga and horse-whip scenes, for a glimpse of some of the most sophisticated eyewear in cinematic history (reportedly vintage Prada model SPR07F), and of course, his penchant for beautiful women. Lots of them.
Ah, to be Italian.
